The nominations page is now open for the 2011 Turkeys meals. Please sign up your family or any family in need. Remember that you or the family will need to pick up the physical ticket and also bring the ticket back to retrieve the meal on distribution day.

There is no criteria for this nomination system. It’s between you and God.

Our History

In 2009, God planted our mission of providing an entire Thanksgiving meal for a family of 4 that they could cook at home. Through over 500 volunteers and trust in God, we were able to provide the food necessary, money for the turkeys and $5 for each recipient!

In 2010, God proved himself worthy of all of our praise once again! Through the tireless effort of our volunteers, we were able to raise the food and funds necessary for another 500 meals at Thanksgiving.

This year, we are placing our faith in God to provide once again, but are upping the challenge. Not only will we provide 500 Turkeys, but we will also include TWO of every item in the box. That’s 1,000 items! Can we do it? Alone, we can’t, but with God, all things are possible!

High Five!

Print this page, cut out all four corners and sell in your business, club, church or work place for $20, $5, $1 or any donation. Then tape them on the walls or windows. Display your community support and allow others to participate is the blessing.

One group is having a 48 person BUNCO game for $10/person and silent auction. (Oct 11)

There is a large Turkey Auction on Oct 21 @ Pikk’s Tavern in Valpo from 6p – 8p.
(Donation’s still requested. All are invited. Appetizers provided courtesy of Pikk’s)

RiffRaff’s last year had a contest between them and Pepe’s on who could sell the most hands. RiffRaff’s won but both were very successful!

A friend wants to have a backyard party and auction off people for slow dances during the evening.

Food drives in neighborhoods are taking place on front porch drop off sites. Some hang bags outside their front door and the group picks them up.

How about a Corn Hole tournament? Could you organize it and have a blast doing it. Helping people in need is what it’s alll about!

Food Collection Efforts

So far, many items are being collected. LOOK BELOW FOR COLLECTION SITES.

If you would like to pick an item to collect and ask your school, neighborhood, family, friends, co-workers, children’s clubs, Bunco groups, church, etc… to help out, we would be fighting hunger RIGHT WHERE WE LIVE! It’s giving hope and comfort to struggling families, letting them know that they don’t have to stress about how they will provide a holiday meal. Isaiah 58:7 I want youto share your food with the hungry and to provide shelter for homeless, oppressed people. When you see someone naked, clothe him! Don’t turn your back on your own flesh and blood!

McDonald’s has committed to collecting 500 boxes of stuffing at all Porter County locations from 9/15 to Nov 5.

RiffRaffs Bar & Grill (391w US Hwy 6, South Haven) has committed to collect 500 cans of corn. Rock on!

**Crisman Elementry School (6161 Old Porter Road, Portage, IN) is having a school-wide campaign to collect 500 brownie mixes!

**Sisters, Cheryl Hilzley & Lisa Dempsey offered to collect 500 boxes of corn bread mix.

**Renee Reno Patton is collecting 100 cans of green beans from family & friends.

**Banta Feeds will have a food collection in October for 500 Turkeys in the Jefferson Park area for all menu items.

**Scott Morris will be collecting 100 boxes of mashed potatoes! GREAT!

**Mike and Alicia Baker are asking friends, families, co-workers ect… to collect 100 Mashed Potatoes.

**Mike & Pat Thurber just offered to collect 250cn cranberries.

**Boardworks, Inc (1203 Formula Dr.Valpo) has offered to collect 100cn cranberries, 100cn green beans & 100cn yam’s! Thanks John!

**Zamm’s Gyro’s (925 Central Ave, Lake Station) committed to collect 100 cans of Green Beans.

**Rhonda Wilkie Joseph and family has offered to collect 100cn green beans.

**Cindy Higgins & family are collecting funds from Alabama to purchase Brownie mix in memory of their son & brother, Jeremy Higgins.

**Annette & her co-workers from Digestive Health Care (2206 Roosevelt Road Suite A, Valpo) are collecting 100 cans of Yam’s & Sweet Potatoes.

**Mirror Image Dance Studio (3207 Cascade Dr. Suite G, Valpo) are joyfully collecting 150cn Yam’s. Thanks Amanda!

**Family Bible Church (6400 W US-6, Portage) will be collecting 150cn Yam’s.

**New Song Fellowship (212 Lincolnway, Valpo) will be collecting all menu items at their location below BW3′s in Valpo.

**Bridge Point Church in Valparaiso (old YMCA) has offered to collect 500 packets of gravy to include in this holiday meal.

**Grace Point Church is now collecting 300 boxes of Mashed Potatoes to support 500 Turkeys.

Turkey Update

Victor reports that 500 Turkeys are still looking good to get by Nov 20 and under $1 per pound. The bird size will vary so we are estimating that we will need to raise $5000 in donations to pay for them. Thanks to the Food Bank of NWI for the help in providing TURKEYS!

Meetings and Planning

Sept 20th meeting brought 2 new faces. John & Kathy Sipple! Thanks for being a part of the blessing. They will support 500 turkeys on twitter and Facebook as well as collect 100 of each – green beans, cranberries & yam’s at Boardworks in Valpo.

We covered all the food collection sites and talked about where to put food when it starts coming in to the church. I’ll be organizing it but we will use the space near the front entrance (wall infront of the couch) and the “kitchen area”.

We have a page with 4 hands on it that can be sold for donations tward the purchase of turkeys. contact me if you would like that e-mailed to you. PAYPAL is now active on the web site. Please refer people there to donate.
$20-$25 feeds an entire family
$10 buys ONE turkey
